Star Trek Into Darkness (J.J. Abrams) - 2013

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch steals the show as the enigmatic, young Khan who emerges as a long-term nemesis of Kirk, Spock and company.  There is much to appreciate in this second prequel for Trekkers and Trekkies including an appearance by a Tribble.  Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban and Simon Pegg do great impressions of Spock, Bones and Scotty, respectively.  However, Chris Pine does not attempt to copy William Shatner's Kirk.  But who could blame him?  Any impression of the Shatner "acting" style would be viewed as comedic.  Director Abrams crammed this two-hour adventure with spectacular special effects and improbable escape sequences - enough to satisfy any hard-core syfy fan.  Gene Roddenberry would approve.  There is no teaser at the end of the credits but the closing musical score is the best I have ever heard.  Classical music fans are in for a treat.  Where do we go from here?  I do not know where but I do know that I will be there for the ride.  [JAM 5/19/2013]
