Star Trek Beyond (Justin Lin) - 2016

This Star Trek is exactly what I expected it to be: great special effects, very thin plot (co-written by Simon "Scotty" Pegg), and a bit of humor between familiar characters.  It is sad that this was the last movie for new Chekhov (Anton Yelich), and the first since the death of Leonard Nimoy, who received appropriate tributes from the producer.  For the record, there was some guy named "Krall" who was causing havoc in an area of space beyond that rocky, nebula area where only the Enterprise could go but for which there was no possible way for the crew to get any help from Starfleet.  So, Krall tricked Kirk et al. into a trap causing numerous explosions and crashes from which all of the main characters survived and many flunkies did not.  The surviving Enterprise crew launched a counter attack using very crude technology and the help of newcomer, Jaylah (Sofia Boutella).  With a lot of ingenuity and an inordinate amount of luck, Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and a few others jumped into the middle of the spectacular invasion and ... (you know).  [JAM 7/27/2016]
