St. Vincent (Theodore Melfi) - 2014

This is a story about a man (Bill Murray), his cat, his new neighbor (Melissa McCarthy), her son (Jaeden Lieberher) and Murray's pregnant Russsian hooker (Naomi Watts). This unlikely quintet bands together to battle the adversity of common folk.  The casting and flawless screenplay by writer/director Melfi make this the must-see movie of 2014.  Young Lieberher steals the show in his first full-length film as the precocious but unlucky victim of a broken marriage.  Also, Ms. Watts is excellent in her supporting role.  The finale in the grade-school theater is very satisfying.  Everybody has a story.  Stay for the credits that are augmented by a Bob Dylan classic.  [JAM 10/26/2014]
