A Million Ways to Die in the West (Seth MacFarlane) - 2014

Writer/director MacFarlane is in the Oh-no-he's-not-going-to-do-that category of entertainers.  This movie was widely panned for its gross humor but is certain to be an underground classic.  If you can get past the grossness, this really a nice story with a simple plot.  I can relate to the director's opinion of the 19th century American West as a nasty, filthy, dangerous place.  There is no place in the old west for me and there probably would not be a Charlize Theron around to rescue me.  However, male fantasies must be fed.  With cameo appearances by Christopher Lloyd, Gilbert Gottfried, Ewan McGregor, Jamie Foxx and Ryan Reynolds, this one qualifies as a silly parody of the western genre.  Theron, Sarah Silverman and Liam Neeson and Neil Patrick Harris are perfectly cast for their roles.  "People die at the fair."  [JAM 6/6/2014]
