Legends of the Fall (Edward Zwick) - 1994

Colonel Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) quit the army in disgust over the government's treatment of native Americans and retired to a ranch in Montana to raise a family.  The story follows the lives of the colonel's three sons (Aiden Quinn, Henry Thomas & Brad Pitt), before and after WWI, who are all in love with the same woman (Julia Ormond).  Two of the boys return from the war.  One becomes a politician and the other becomes a bootlegger.  Their conflicting lifestyles lead to numerous clashes regarding economic policies.  The cinematography and the performance by Hopkins were outstanding.  However, the movie was largely ignored by AMPAS who preferred Forrest Gump.  Hopkins was nominated in 1995 for his leading role in Nixon.
