Mad #480 (John Ficarra) - Harry Plodder and the Torture of the Fanbase Issue - August 2007

This was the fifth Harry Potter movie parody written by Desmond Devlin and the second one drawn by Tom Richmond (see also "Harry Plodder and the Lamest of Sequels" in Mad #424).  Other Potter parodies were drawn by Mort Drucker ("Harry Plodder and the Sorry-Ass Story" in Mad #412), and Hermann Mejia ("Harry Plodder and the Pre-Teen Nerds Are Actin' Bad" in Mad #443 & "Harry Plodder Has Got to Retire" in Mad #460).  Devlin has constantly explained the flaws in the series but Ms. Rowling has continued to laugh all the way to Bank of England.  Richmond's double-splash brings Simon Cowell, Gollum and Alfred E. into the magic world of Hogwarts.  Later, Casper's friend Wendy the Good Witch is seen smoking cigarettes with her magic wand.  Shrek and giant Mickey Mouse ears make an appearance on page 13.  Plodder's friend Ron Queasy reads "Playwitch" and Harry's new girl friend dumps him for "Druckermort".  The student wizards are now well into their teens with three more movies to make.  Fortunately, Daniel Radcliffe stopped growing at age 12.  James Bennett drew the VoldemortAlf cover, giving Mark Fredrickson a brief vacation from his day job.  [JAM 11/10/2014]
