Mad #463 (John Ficarra) - iPodiTunes Issue - March 2006

Apple introduced media player iTunes in January 2001 and MP3 player iPod later in the same year.  By 2007, Apple had sold over 100 million of the iPod devices at prices ranging from $69 to $599.  Since the devices are manufactured in China, there has been an extremely high profit margin for Steve Jobs (1955-2011) et al.  Mr. Jobs could have created thousands Jobs in the United States where most of the iPod/iTunes consumers reside, but he decided instead to go overseas and make a few more bucks that he would never live to spend.  To date, the total sales of iPods alone is estimated at 400 million for gross sales in excess of $10 billion.  I have one that I won at the company Christmas party in 2008.  Mad celebrated the Apple excess with a cover by Mark Fredrickson, a two-page article by Russ Cooper/Tom Richmond, a Fundalini bit and several mentions throughout the issue.  The best article in the issue is "Mad's All-Inclusive Do-It-Yourself George W. Bush Press Conference" by Frank Jacobs.  There are many excellent truths within the thousands of possible combinations including: "Mr. President, considering how you've failed the nation, what message do you have for your filthy-rich cronies?" to which he replied: "I'm aware that bleeding-heart opponents criticize my tripling the national debt.  Fortunately, I can rely on Condi Rice's expert advice while the nation goes down the tubes .  So, let me state, 'We shall stay the course!'"  [JAM 10/2/2014]
