Mad #361 (Nick Meglin and John Ficarra) - Special Clinton-Bashing Issue - September 1997

There really was not that much bashing in this pre-Monica Lewinsky issue.  The cover is an excellent Monopoly parody by Sam Viviano with policeman Alf dragging the president to jail.  The yellow board spaces serve as a border that continues the look of Mad since issue number 356.  Border jokes include special prosecutor Ken Starr, Whitewater, Susan McDougal, the 2000 Al Gore campaign, White House rooms for rent and various womanizing scenes.  Andrew Schwartzberg wrote a one-page, Clinton-Yeltsin "Chat Room" that would barely qualify as bashing.  Frank Jacobs contributed a great song parody ("The Ballad of Bubba Bill") that was more of the same.  The "Monopoly Cards" by Viviano and "J.Prete" (John Ficarra) showed Clinton on one "Chance" card for a $250,000 "Coffee Klatch".  Potential Clinton girl friend, Paula Jones received some bashing in "Mad's Celebrity Cause-of-Death Betting Odds" but Clinton was barely referenced.  And, Al Jaffee put Bill and Hillary in the fold-in with thoughts of prison (for Whitewater or Whitehouse coffee?).  All things considered, the Mad "bashing" was rather tame.  Compared to Nixon and Reagan, Clinton's "illegal" activities were minor.  His unwise lie under oath about an extramarital affair remains the only blemish on an otherwise excellent eight years in the "Oval Office."
