Mad #338 (Nick Meglin and John Ficarra) - Connie Chung Issue - August 1995

The effects of the corporate takeover of Mad continued as the office was moved from 485 MADison Avenue, where it had been since 1966, to 1700 Broadway.  Sergio Aragones commemorated the change by building a new Mad mailbox.  Frank Frazetta (1928-2010) drew his his only cover art for Mad ("Judge Dreddful").  He also provided two back covers: "Blecch" ad parody (Ringo Starr) for Mad #90 and "Tarzan of the Apes" for Mad #106.  The "Marblerow" cigarette parody returned with a catalog parody {"Marblerow Gear") for carcinogen fans by Dick DeBartolo.  Mike Snider added a specialty magazine parody ("Latchkey Kid") for the home alone gang.  However, the best article in the issue is the two-page quiz ("Rock & Roll Closeups") by Desmond Devlin and Sam Viviano.  I confess that I scored zero on the eight-question popular music exam. The back cover shows some unusual but very expensive check designs.  My favorite design is "Penguins and Bagpipes." [JAM 7/23/2012]
