Mad #117 (Albert Feldstein) - Sam Pebbles Issue - March 1968

I have not seen the subject of this movie parody (The Sand Pebbles) but I still enjoy this Stan Hart/Mort Drucker masterpiece.  Drucker's drawings of Steve McQueen (1930-1980), Richard Crenna (1926-2003), Simon Oakland (1915-1983), Candice Bergen and others are uncanny.  He captures personalities with simple, two-dimensional line drawings.  He must be the most under-rated artist of his time.  Other than Mad readers, who has heard of him?  I met Mr. Drucker at the San Diego Comic Con.  He was alone in the DC/Mad booth.  The only thing I could think to say was: "I love your work.  Please keep drawing." (or something like that).  In my dreams I draw like Mort Drucker and hit golf balls like Tiger Woods. [JAM 10/12/2009]
