1987

In the summer of 1987, I was asked to spend ten weeks in Cleveland, Ohio working on special project to design quality control procedures for inspection of gas appliances at customers' factories.  The company paid for family to travel with me.  We stayed in an apartment in Mayfield Heights.  During the trip, we drove to Washington, D.C. for the 200th anniversary of the Constitution.  It was hot and muggy.  After six weeks, Lorna had had enough of the North Coast.  She flew home with boys and I stayed for four more weeks to complete the project.  At the end of the ten weeks, Vice President Dick Schulte told me that he planned to promote me to General Manager of the Pacific Coast Branch in 1988.  [JAM 3/23/2010]
