1943

After graduating from John Marshall High in Los Angeles, our mother, Nyla Maxine Booth (Moore) worked at The Broadway as cashier and gift wrapper, the Hollywood Bowl refreshment stand, and in the billing department of Acme Fast Freight.  She married Robert Tripp in 1942.  They were divorced in 1945.  When I asked my mother about Mr. Tripp, she said: "He was a rat."  While she was separated, our mother met our father, Homer Lee Moore at The Pike in Long Beach, California in August 1945.  Dad's ship, USS Maryland had returned to Long Beach after the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945.  This photo was taken in 1943 when our mother and her sister, Alice Booth (Coon) were in Hollywood to see Edge of Darkness starring Errol Flynn and Ann Sheridan.  [JAM 2/21/2021]
