1941

Our mother graduated from John Marshall High School in Los Angeles in June 1941.  Hitler had been bombing London for eight months.  Most of the young men would soon be going off to war.  Mom received high school awards for "Citizenship" and "Perfect Attendance".  Her favorite activity was "dancing".  She was known as the "quiet little blonde girl".  Our father was working in the Wonderbread Bakery in Oklahoma City.  After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Dad made plans to join the U.S. Navy to serve in the Pacific theater of operations.  Mom and Dad would not meet until after Japan surrendered in August 1945.  [JAM 2/27/2021]
